2024 UNESCO International Centre for Biotechnology (UNESCO ICB) Scholarship Programme The UNESCO International Centre for Biotechnology (UNECO ICB) was founded through an agreement between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Its mission is to conduct research and training in biotechnology, focusing on three key areas: food security, tropical diseases, and bioresources conservation.

Scholarship Details:
Applications are currently open for the annual Scholarship Program offered by the Centre to support the development of human capital. Successful applicants will be granted funding for one academic year covering tuition fees, accommodation, books, and living expenses.

Scholarship Categories:
Each year, the program offers three categories of awards, with 15 scholarships available for each category. These categories include Final Year Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, and PhD scholarships. Within each category, there are five awards allocated to each of the Centre’s thematic areas: food security, tropical diseases, and bioresources conservation, totaling 45 scholarships annually.

Selection Criteria:
Candidates must meet the following criteria to be considered for the scholarship:
– Currently enrolled in a tertiary academic institution in Nigeria.
– Pursuing studies in biotechnology or related disciplines relevant to the Centre’s thematic areas.
– Maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 2nd Class Upper (2:1).
– Preference given to First Class students or those ranking at the top of their class.
– Limit of one award per scholarship category per thematic area from any academic institution.

Additional Requirements for Awardees:
– Geographic and gender diversity will be considered in the final selection.
– Awardees must attend the Award Ceremony and present their final year project or thesis research findings.
– All publications resulting from the research project/thesis must acknowledge the Centre and be deposited in both digital and hard copies.
– Only successful applicants will be contacted; the decision of the Scholarships Awards Committee is final.

Application Deadline: 22nd March, 2024, by Mid-day (12:00 hrs)

Application Procedure:
Interested candidates should submit the following application documents to 2023scholarships@unescoicb.org.ng with “Application for 2023 Scholarship” as the email subject:
– Motivation letter
– Copies of current student ID and admission letter
– Copies of current certificates and academic transcripts
– Supporting letter from the current Head of Department (HOD) confirming the student’s academic status.
