Hajiya Mariya is the daughter of Kano’s famous richest man, who had unequalled business relations with European traders in colonial times. Equally, her grandfather, Alhaji Alhassan Dantata was an outstanding businessman, well known in the continent and beyond, in the 80s while Aliko Dangote’s father, Mohammed is one of the business associates of the Dantatas and that was where his parents paths crossed then giving birth to Aliko Dangote.
The bond that exists between Aliko Dangote and his mother is second to none as he is always on frequent visits to Kano being the only son born to his father, Mohammed Dangote. So much love exists between the Dantatas that his mother’s brother who is an uncle to Aliko Dangote, Alhaji Abdulkadir Sanusi Dantata, gave Dangote a breakthrough with a loan which he started his business with.
Hajia Mariya Dantata is well known for her love for the less privileged and in Kano, in short, many regard her as one of the matriarchs in Kano who is well respected and Aliko Dangote’s nature is a family thing especially from his mother’s side simply known as Dantatas, as they have recorded high scores, not only to Kano state but Nigeria as a whole.
According to information, Aliko’s mother has contributed to community development projects by building a multi-million naira mosque in Kano State where she feeds average of 5,000 people daily. Surprisingly, the Billionaire businesswoman, Dr Mariya, is the daughter of Sanusi Dantata and granddaughter of legendary businessman, Alhassan Dantata.
Little wonder, it was due to her contributions to the society that the Bayero University, Kano, awarded her an honorary doctorate degree. Alhaja Mariya married to Mohammed Dangote for whom she had Aliko Dangote, the multi billionaire businessman known across the whole world.
